Introducing a rare side table designed by the pioneering Swedish designer Bo Fjæstad and produced in the mid 1930s in Sweden. This studio craft table, crafted from solid pine, is a great example of the pine furniture made for cabins that was produced during the early modernist era in Sweden, by names like Axel Einar Hjorth and Carl Malmsten. This beautiful table is replete with a character-rich patina that suits this type of furniture and demonstrates the use of something once loved and utilized.
Bo Krister Gustafsson Fjaestad was born in Arvika, Värmland on 13th June 1906 and was a prominent Swedish sculptor, furniture designer and artist. The son of Swedish artists and craftsmen Maja Fjaestad (1837-1961) and Gustaf Fjaestad (1868-1948), in 1922, alongside his parents, he was involved in the creation of the art industry collective Arvika Konsthantverk (Arvika Handicrafts) at The Rackstad Colony. Although Fjaestad did not follow the design narrative of the era, he certainly played a significant role in the development of Sweden’s international design reputation, his style eventually absorbed into design characteristics of modernism in Sweden.
This splendid side table, left in 100% original condition, is ideal for collectors and designers alike searching for an authentic Bo Fjæstad piece. Simultaneously rustic and elegant this accent table can blend seamlessly against a myriad of design backdrops from Scandinavian Modern to Cabincore to contemporary and everything in between. With very few of these tables ever produced and fewer still available for sale in North America this Fjæstad table won't last long. Make it yours today before it's gone forever.
