Everyone experiences their own grief, but there is also a global pain, caused by war and other traumatic events.
Among the many shades of green, small craters appear here and there, evoking wounds, accentuated by a soft red.
This is Vin Sculptras's way of expressing Weltschmerz, this feeling of melancholy and the world's pain.
At the same time, freedom of interpretation remains paramount: the viewer decides what they see in the works.
Wounded Faces is the result of an intensive process of continuously applied oil paint, which is then dried using a special technique. The paint is then removed and reapplied. This process is repeated for approximately six months, until the desired result is achieved.

The wooden frames are made from the timbers of an old 18th-century Dutch slave ship, which greatly enhances the symbolic power of the work.

Vincent Schuijren, born in 1977 in Maastricht, Netherlands, is a sculptor and painter whose work reflects a relentless quest for new forms of expression. In his studio, where open tubes of paint and works in progress fill the space, his presence is indicated by a simple jacket paired with paint-stained work trousers. While working, he regularly smokes a philosophical cigarette, an instrument that allows him to open his creative connection and receive and experience the universe.
with training as a professional photographer, Vincent has developed a keen sense of composition and light, which he effortlessly translates into his paintings to create a timeless universe all his own. Sometimes, subtle painted monsters appear as key figures, offering perspective and serving as outlets for his personal experiences.
The bipolar disorder he experiences acts as an internal catalyst: he allows his work to emerge as a translation of what he receives and experiences.
His works are the result of an intense process lasting approximately six months, with some paintings containing several kilograms of oil paint. They also reveal a marked sculptural power, where forms, volumes, and textures confer a tangible, almost physical presence.
Vincent has exhibited in several countries, including Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, notably at the Museum aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht.
All the works presented here have previously been exhibited in museums. His work avoids romantic clichés such as fields of poppies and oscillates between abstraction, figuration, and minimalist expression, always within a decorative language that is uniquely his own.
