The Wounded Faces series is a representation of suffering, both individual and universal.
Everyone experiences their own grief, but there is also a global pain, caused by war and other traumatic events.
Among the many shades of green, small craters appear here and there, evoking wounds, accentuated by a soft red.
This is Vin Sculptras's way of expressing Weltschmerz, this feeling of melancholy and the world's pain.
At the same time, freedom of interpretation remains paramount: the viewer decides what they see in the works.
Wounded Faces is the result of an intensive process of continuously applied oil paint, which is then dried using a special technique. The paint is then removed and reapplied. This process is repeated for approximately six months, until the desired result is achieved.
The wooden frames are made from the timbers of an old 18th-century Dutch slave ship, which greatly enhances the symbolic power of the artwork.
The larger painting, which is part of the series, is also available for purchase (see photos).
