This oil painting landscape is in the style of late 19th or early 20th century European realism, depicting a Norwegian fjord or Alpine lake setting.
Signed lower right, Hermann Julius Lichtenberger, a German artist active during the late 19th century known for his landscape works.
The scene's composition , towering cliffs flanking a narrow body of water with a small cluster of red-roofed buildings, highly characteristic of "Fjordlandskap" (fjord landscapes).

In good original condition showing some typical age-appropriate wear from normal use with overall craquelure to the paint which has an old patina to its finish. With a small blemish to the left hand side of its frame.

Artist signed in the lower right hand corner "H Lichtenberger"
