with its theatrical presence and rare refinement, this large overmantel mirror in cream lacquered wood with gray highlights is a masterpiece of 19th-century French décor. Embodying the pure Louis XVI style, it is distinguished by its tripartite structure with arcades, reminiscent of the classical loggias of European palaces.
The sculpted decoration is a true homage to the Neoclassical repertoire: an imposing central basket of flowers crowns the main arcade, from which flow generous garlands of roses and foliage delicately tied with ribbons. Every detail of the carving testifies to the exquisite craftsmanship. The original mercury mirrors offer those characteristic deep, silvery reflections, bringing a mysterious light and an incomparable soul to the room.
The whole rests on a low, molded plinth carved with egg-and-dart motifs, supported by small toupie feet. This base element lends the mirror visual stability and a strong architectural foundation. In terms of preservation, this trumeau has survived with an authentic patina. There are a few light stains on the lacquer and some discreet losses in the moldings, as well as the natural pitting of the mercury mirror (visible in the detail photos). Far from being flaws, these marks of time attest to its authenticity and underscore the noble nature of its provenance.
