An impressive pair of late 19th century French Renaissance Revival bronze wall sconces featuring dramatic grotesque mascaron mounts and three scrolling candle arms.
Each sconce is centered by a finely cast theatrical mask framed by an architectural pierced backplate with Renaissance-style ornament. The expressive mascaron supports three elegantly scrolled arms adorned with acanthus leaf decoration and foliate terminals, each ending in candle-form sockets with drip sleeves and bobeches.
The richly detailed casting and sculptural form reflect the influence of Renaissance architectural ornament revived during the late Victorian period in France. Pieces of this quality were commonly used in formal interiors such as libraries, dining rooms, and entry halls.
These sconces retain their original warm bronze patina and present beautifully as dramatic decorative lighting elements.
