This cabinet is an early-to-mid 19th century primitive jelly cupboard, made in North Carolina, the furniture capital of the United States. It is made of oak and has its original rich dark brown stain on the outside, with the interior left in its natural state. These rustic and functional pieces were originally used in rural kitchens for storing canned goods and jelly. It features solid wood knobs (also original) and metal casters on each leg. It has a single wide drawer over two paneled doors.
This lovely piece of Early American craftsmanship has a small portion of its original label on the back, affixed with nails that corroborate our dating. Seller believes it says "Marion, N.C." In the 1800s, there were many small furniture makers throughout the Marion area, with few historical records today to identify this maker.
Arresting in its simplicity and form, it is fully functional for any modern-day use you envision!

The oak frame, doors and legs have no cracks or other damage and the casters are original and are in working order. The wood does have dings, mainly on the legs and the apron. The cabinet doors stay closed and are easy to open and in alignment. The drawer comes in and out easily. There is a crack in the wood on the bottom of the drawer and there is a chip in the wood above the right-hand drawer knob (photos provided for both). The rich dark finish has faded slightly on the left cabinet door, and both doors have minor finish "crazing". The top of the cabinet is made of 4 pieces of oak, and the 2 pieces in the center have a slight separation where the glue has dried or deteriorated. The top has 2 faint water "ring" marks but they are not pronounced. This cabinet has been cared for lovingly through the years! less
