A vintage Brutalist wrought iron mirror featuring a sculptural circular frame with rhythmic geometric relief. The surface reveals a textured, time-worn patina that enhances its raw, architectural character.
Suspended by a metal chain, the piece reflects the design language associated with Jean Touret, whose work helped define mid-century Brutalist ironwork in France. The pronounced relief and irregular surface embody a sculptural approach where material and structure take precedence over ornament.
The composition also echoes the broader aesthetic developed within the Marolles workshops, where handcrafted iron pieces were produced with a strong emphasis on texture, repetition, and visual weight.
The interplay of depth, rhythm, and patina gives the mirror a strong presence despite its compact scale. It works equally well as a standalone statement or integrated into a curated wall composition.
About
Jean Touret (1916–2004) was a French sculptor and designer associated with Les Artisans de Marolles, a collective active from the 1950s to the 1970s. His work is now widely recognized as a key expression of French Brutalism in decorative arts, with handcrafted iron pieces increasingly sought after by collectors.
