Painted during the height of the "California Scene" movement, this piece captures a serene courtyard garden with the masterful light and fluid brushwork characteristic of Schroff’s plein air style.

Schroff was a highly decorated artist, winning a medal for his work at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago and exhibiting at the Portland Art Museum. His works from the 1930s are particularly sought after, as he spent much of this period painting in the artist colonies of Carmel and Laguna Beach.

Condition: The watercolor itself is in excellent condition with vibrant colors and no signs of foxing. The vintage frame shows beautifully; there is one small ding on the top edge (noted in photos), which is minor given the age and history of the piece.
