Its elongated and reinforced structure suggests use for transport and protection of valuable items. This type of Japanese storage chest was used to store documents, textiles or personal belongings, incorporating a traditional locking system and side handles for portability. Interior inscriptions further reinforce its utilitarian origin. The construction is robust, featuring hand-forged iron reinforcements with rivets on corners and edges, characteristic of transport chests. The front lock and side handles are functional and protective in design. The surface presents a rich and even patina, with natural wear, oxidation on iron elements and tonal variation that enhances its visual depth.
