This work, entitled progress, perfectly illustrates his energetic, narrative, and profoundly symbolic style.
the composition, mounted on a rotating base, depicts a young, nude man with a taut body and slightly twisted torso, embodying humanity's vital drive toward knowledge. His ascending, almost promethean posture reflects the era's absolute confidence in science, study, and human intelligence. Leaning against a globe, he holds a compass in his right hand. Below him, tools represent scientific and industrial forces.

the base is adorned with a plaque bearing the inscription: "son of science, he leads humankind in its ascending and eternal evolution." this phrase perfectly reflects the spirit of the artist, who often associated his bronzes with mottos extolling effort, clarity, and elevation. The artist's signature is found on the base. A cartouche entitled "progress by e. Picault" is located on the front of the pivoting base.
