These four sculpted stone architectural elements form a suite of rare elegance. Directly inspired by the Corinthian style of antiquity, these capitals were crafted in France at the end of the 19th century. They bear witness to the fascination of that era with the classical repertoire, executed here with remarkable technical virtuosity.
Each piece is a work of meticulous sculpture, adorned with double rows of deeply veined acanthus leaves and surmounted by graceful volutes converging beneath a molded abacus. The grain of the stone, enhanced by prolonged exposure to the elements, displays a nuanced patina ranging from mineral gray to touches of vegetal green. This natural erosion lends the ensemble a historical depth and an immediate sense of poetry.
In terms of preservation, these capitals are in excellent overall condition. There are a few minor stone losses at some corners, minor wear which, far from detracting from their aesthetic appeal, reinforces their authentic character and their status as garden antiques. Diverted from their original function, these capitals now offer multiple decorative possibilities: they can be used as pedestals for sculptures, bases for a monumental table or simply as pure art objects to punctuate a winter garden or a terrace.
