Cuban mahogany and leather highback armchair with nailhead detail by Rud Rasmussen, produced in Denmark c. 1940s.
Blending elements of Kaare Klint's iconic Red and Nørrevold chairs, this design features simple, squared leg posts in front, curved legs in the rear, and a pair of stretcher bars in between. We are uncertain if this chair was designed by Klint himself, as we have yet to find another exactly like it.
The original Rud Rasmussen logo remains partially intact on the underside of the chair. Although much of the label is missing, the acorn and the final letters of 45 NØRREBROGADE – the address of Rasmussen’s workshop since the 1870s – are still visible.
The chair is structurally sound and the frame shows a beautifully refined patina. The upholstered portions were recently redone, including foam and webbing, and are in excellent, ready to use condition.
