This is an authentic "No. 212 Senior Swan" produced by the Concrete Machinery Company of Hickory, North Carolina circa 1970s. This specific example features the premium, fully spelled-out "COPYRIGHT" "CONCRETE MACHINERY CO" maker’s mark on the base. In the company’s later production years (late 1970s and 1980s), markings were often abbreviated to "MACHY CO" or "CMC." This full signature identifies this swan as an earlier-generation casting from the Flowers family's original aluminum molds.
A true icon of American garden art, this design was the central subject of the landmark 1980s federal copyright case, Concrete Machinery Co. v. Classic Lawn Ornaments, which established these sculptures as protected works of art. This piece retains its original paint with an "alligator-skin" crazed patina, a hallmark of 50 years of authentic Texas garden weathering that collectors and designers highly prize.
