artist stefano chiantore (savigliano, cuneo, 1772 – turin, c. 1849) son of the painter giuseppe, he trained under his father and later in turin. He painted various portraits in savigliano and fossano, also working as a painting restorer. In 1812, he participated in an exhibition in turin organized for napoleon’s name day, presenting two views of the po river, created in collaboration with his father. By royal decree of october 25, 1814, he was appointed “portrait painter” by victor emmanuel i, with the obligation to copy portraits and restore paintings. Among his surviving works are two official portraits of the sovereign (turin prefecture and state archives) and a portrait of a lady (1829) at the civic museum of ancient art in turin, all of primarily documentary value. As a restorer, he achieved no better results: his interventions on the collections of the sabauda gallery and moncalieri castle were later completely removed. In 1815, he was appointed inspector of the convoy of artworks returned by the french to the duchy of genoa and savona.
