Traveling Man Treasures is selling this pair of late 19th or early 20th century Italian painted spelter guards each holding pole arms with gonfalon/banners attached.
Cast in a stunning Renaissance design, these were oftentimes used to flank mantle clocks or used as figural art pieces. The axe-heads at the top of the poles are removable and can be replaced by candlestick holders.
The guards are in good condition with scuffs and dings appropriate for their age. There is damage to the tips of the axe-heads, but these are replaceable.
