The iconic mid-century modern chairs known as "Fauteuil Tete de Lionne" feature striking cast bronze mounted lion head finials on the arms, finished in warm gilt tone. The large chairs are supported by lion's paw feet, creating a refined and glamorous accent. The iron frames consist of an open back with an arched crest rail and vertical pickets, paired with long sweeping arms. The frames are finished in a pebbled charcoal black with bronze joints matching the animal-form detailing. The front legs remain straight with subtle rod stretchers while the back legs have a graceful backwards curve. The seat bottoms are formed in a geometric lattice pattern and topped with fitted loose ivory-toned seat cushions. The arms measure 26" tall at the highest point. The chairs are sturdy and solid having excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The lounges are crafted with a distinctive large scale having an opulent, well heeled profile. The seat cushions are new and upholstered with an all-weather fabric. Attributed to J. Art Iron Company foundry in Los Angeles, CA. Sold as a pair from an estate in Beverly Hills, CA.
