An extraordinary vintage fireplace surround attributed to Calco, featuring a rare and highly decorative Mayan Revival design rendered in richly toned matte glaze ceramic tiles. This sculptural composition showcases deeply carved figural and geometric motifs, including a striking central Mayan-style figure panel surrounded by symbolic glyph-like elements that create a cohesive architectural narrative across the entire surround. The glaze presents a beautiful blend of earthy bronze, olive, and ochre tones with a soft matte finish that enhances the depth and texture of each tile, giving the piece a warm, almost archaeological presence. Both bold and refined, this surround functions as a true statement installation—perfect for Spanish Revival, Mediterranean, or eclectic interiors, as well as designers and collectors seeking a one-of-a-kind architectural element with strong visual impact.
The overall width at the widest point (across the feet) measures 61 inches. The total height from the top of the arch to the bottom of the surround is 48 inches. The firebox opening measures approximately 31 inches high by 28.5 inches wide.

The central figural panel has a crack running through the lower portion of the figure; however, due to the way the tiles are installed, this line would be very difficult to notice once set and could easily be incorporated into a grout line. There are also a few minor chips and areas of light glaze loss, as shown in the photos, but nothing that detracts significantly from the overall presentation. Overall, the piece remains visually strong and highly displayable, with wear that is consistent with vintage architectural tile. less
