a fully hand-forged iron box made by the craftsman fr. Sauer in essen-steele, germany. A solid and heavy piece with beautiful decorative wrought iron details and an original working lock with key. In addition to its exceptional craftsmanship, what makes this piece especially remarkable is the year of its production. The year 1946, immediately after world war ii, was a time of extreme material shortage in germany. Objects like this were often made from recycled iron and produced in small artisan workshops, as industrial production had not yet fully recovered. This is also confirmed by the stamp on the bottom of the box.

this iron box therefore represents a high-quality example of post-war craftsmanship and a small but authentic piece of history.
