Architectural abstract painting inspired by Cidade da Cultura with colorful modular structures exploring play, imagination and contemporary architectural language. This painting by María Magán Lampón belongs to the series Procesos, a body of work that emerges from the artist’s engagement with everyday life and the playful dynamics of childhood. Developed during a period marked by motherhood, the series investigates how simple actions, repetition and spontaneous gestures can generate new visual narratives. In these compositions, architectural forms appear reconstructed through the language of play. Colorful modular elements reminiscent of wooden construction toys form bridges, arches and structural passages that evoke both real urban landmarks and imagined environments. The work presented here references the architectural complex of Cidade da Cultura in Santiago de Compostela, whose monumental curves and infrastructural gestures are translated into a playful system of colored blocks. Through this transformation, the painting introduces a subtle reflection on contemporary architecture and its relationship with spectacle. The intensely saturated palette echoes the visual strategies of iconic buildings designed to capture attention in a media-driven cultural landscape. By rebuilding these architectural gestures with the language of children’s construction toys, the artist introduces a distance that reveals the fragility and symbolic nature of such forms. The lightly sketched landscape surrounding the structure functions as a delicate spatial context, suggesting a territory where imagination and memory overlap. Within this environment, architectural icons become elements of an open narrative, capable of being assembled, reinterpreted or reinvented.
