The plaques display two alternating designs: cherub busts (putti) and a classical female profile inspired by Roman cameo medallions. The elegant elongated form and surrounding scroll ornament are characteristic of Italian neoclassical revival decorative hardware produced around the turn of the 20th century.
Such bronze appliques were traditionally mounted onto fine European furniture including cabinets, commodes and wardrobes, forming decorative friezes or ornamental panels.
These pieces were likely removed from an antique cabinet or architectural panel and are now offered as a set of four. Today they can be reused for furniture restoration projects, architectural decoration, or as sculptural wall accents. See less
