Circa 1860. All the drawers can be locked at once via the side piece that covers the front of the drawers the chest features a tall, narrow form fitted with a series of graduated drawers, each retaining its original turned wooden knobs. One side retains the characteristic locking bar with working key, designed to secure all drawers simultaneously a defining feature of the wellington chest. The top drawer is deeper, with the remaining drawers graduating below, providing practical and well-organised storage. The chest is flanked by carved decorative corbels beneath the top moulding, adding architectural detail and enhancing the strong vertical lines of the design raised on a plinth base, the piece demonstrates the solid construction and quality craftsmanship associated with early 19th-century english furniture.
