The chairs feature the classic Victorian balloon shaped backs, beautifully formed with a shaped top rail and open centre which gives the chairs their elegant light appearance. The warm colour and grain of the mahogany adds to their charm and character.
The seats are generously proportioned and traditionally upholstered, providing excellent comfort while maintaining the refined lines of the frames. The chairs stand on turned front legs with elegant back legs typical of mid-Victorian dining chair design.
During the Victorian period dining became an important social occasion within the home and chairs such as these were designed to accompany the large extending dining tables popular at the time. Their shaped backs and comfortable seats made them ideal for long formal dinners and entertaining guests.
