An exceptional and highly sculptural mid-19th century French Provincial buffet à deux corps, dating to circa 1850 and masterfully crafted in solid walnut. This piece is a true example of provincial Louis XV craftsmanship, distinguished by its refined proportions, deeply carved ornamentation, and beautifully aged patina.
The upper hutch is particularly striking featuring three compartments framed by turned columns and adorned with intricate hand-carved medallions and foliate motifs. Each panel reflects traditional craftsmanship, while the original red patterned lining remains intact inside, a rare and desirable survival that adds warmth and authenticity.
The lower case presents a graceful serpentine form with two drawers over paneled double doors, all richly decorated with flowing carvings and original hardware. The apron is especially notable, with pronounced movement and detailed carving that elevates the entire silhouette. Hand-cut joinery and solid walnut construction throughout further underscore the quality of the piece.
Unlike many larger deux corps cabinets, this example offers a more versatile scale while retaining strong visual impact making it ideal as a statement sideboard, bar cabinet, or focal storage piece in both traditional and modern interiors.
Authentic mid-19th century examples of this scale, condition, and decorative quality are increasingly difficult to source, particularly with original interior elements intact.
