A striking dialogue between form, shadow, and movement, the ASFOUR rug captures the fleeting presence of a bird and its reflection. Designed by Tunisian artist Meriem Bouderbala, this piece transcends its function to become a true woven artwork.
Minimal yet deeply expressive, the composition plays with duality — presence and absence, light and shadow — creating a visual narrative that evolves depending on the viewer’s perspective.
Each piece is meticulously handwoven by master artisan Chareffedine, translating the artist’s vision into fiber through exceptional craftsmanship.
✨ Why it stands out
Designed by renowned artist Meriem Bouderbala
Evocative bird & shadow motif with strong poetic identity
A true collectible between art and design
Can be used as rug or wall-mounted artwork
Handmade piece – each rug is unique
Material & Craftsmanship
ASFOUR is crafted from Smar (natural rush fiber), harvested in the wetlands of Northern Tunisia, between sea and land. After careful selection and drying, the fibers are handwoven on traditional ground looms into strips, then assembled to faithfully reproduce the artist’s design.
The use of dyed rush requires precision and mastery, making each piece the result of a highly skilled and time-intensive process.
This natural fiber offers:
Strength and durability (suitable for high-traffic areas)
Organic texture and timeless aesthetic
An eco-friendly and sustainable material

Curatorial Note
ASFOUR embodies a refined balance between minimalism and storytelling. Through the simple yet powerful image of a bird and its shadow, Meriem Bouderbala invites us to reflect on movement, freedom, and the ephemeral nature of presence.
Rooted in Tunisian craftsmanship yet unmistakably contemporary, this piece belongs as much in a design interior as in a curated art collection.
