At the crossroads of art and design, the BHAR rug is a powerful and expressive piece imagined by Tunisian artist Meriem Bouderbala. More than a rug, it is a woven artwork that explores the human form through a deeply personal and poetic lens.
Drawing from her signature visual language, the artist reinterprets the female body — revealed, veiled, fragmented — in compositions that evoke both strength and vulnerability. The fluid lines and subtle distortions create a sense of movement, giving the piece an almost ethereal presence.
Handwoven by master artisan Chareffedine using traditional techniques, BHAR reflects a rare dialogue between contemporary artistic expression and ancestral craftsmanship.
✨ Why it stands out
Designed by internationally recognized artist Meriem Bouderbala
A true collectible piece blending art & functional design
Figurative, expressive composition with strong emotional depth
Can be displayed as rug or wall art
Each piece is handmade and unique
Material & Craftsmanship
The rug is crafted from Smar (natural rush fiber), sustainably harvested in the marshlands of Northern Tunisia, between sea and land. Once dried and sorted, the fibers are woven on traditional ground looms into strips, then assembled into intricate compositions.
This natural material offers:
High durability (suitable for high-traffic areas)
A raw, organic texture
An environmentally responsible alternative to synthetic fibers
