Description
This striking mid-century Japanese cast iron teapot (Tetsukyusu) is a masterful blend of functional art and traditional craftsmanship. The body features a deeply embossed, all-over floral relief pattern that provides a beautiful tactile quality, complemented by a classic braided-style stationary handle.
The piece rests elegantly on three integrated tripod feet, giving it a lifted, architectural silhouette. The base is notably marked with the vertical signature of the artisan workshop, Ueda Zō (上田造), alongside a "JAPAN" export cartouche, dating this piece to the mid-20th century Showa era. Its heavy, substantial presence makes it an ideal accent piece for Wabi-Sabi, Japandi, or Brutalist interiors.
Condition Report
Condition: Good (Vintage)
Exterior: The cast iron retains a rich, dark charcoal patina with sharp detail in the floral relief. No cracks or structural damage to the body, spout, or lid.
Interior: Consistent with its age and authentic materials, the interior shows significant oxidation (rust) and mineral buildup. This is a common characteristic of vintage ironware and adds to its antique character.
Wear: Light surface oxidation on the underside near the feet and handle joints, consistent with mid-century age.
