An exceptional authentic Japanese bronze hibachi (planter/jardinière) from the Meiji Period (18681912). This substantial 10" wide piece features exquisite high-relief "Raised Flower & Wave" casting, characteristic of the finest Kyoto-school metalwork. It proudly retains its original Gumps San Francisco retail tag, providing prestigious provenance for this 100+ year-old antique.
The underside features a crisp four-character artist seal mark in Tensho (Seal Script), signifying its origin from a professional Meiji-era workshop.
Dimensions: 9" Tall x 10" Wide.
Condition: Good antique condition with a deep, rich patina. There is honest wear to the bronze finish consistent with age, but no dings or structural damage. The integrated tripod base shows some paint loss/chipping as shown.
About the Maker: During the Meiji era, signed bronzes were crafted by master artisans for international exhibition and elite export. This seal identifies it as a documented work of art rather than a mass-market vessel.
