This original watercolor landscape by Tulsa artist Ellen Shannon presents an atmospheric natural scene rendered through layered washes of blue-green, slate, and soft earth tones. A tall central tree rises above a quiet structure partially concealed within foliage, while gestural brushwork below suggests grasses, stones, and water reflecting the surrounding landscape. Shannon’s technique uses transparent watercolor washes and fluid brushwork to create depth and movement, allowing areas of the paper to remain luminous and airy. The vertically oriented composition emphasizes the tree's height and the tranquility of the reflective water below.
Painted on paper, the work balances abstraction and representation, capturing the essence of a quiet rural setting rather than detailing it literally. The restrained palette and flowing washes give the piece a calm, contemplative presence.
