Antique Japanese Edo period sumi-e ink painting of Fukurokuju. In Japanese mythology, Fukurokuju is one of the seven lucky Gods (Shichifukujin) and he represents wisdom, longevity, and happiness. Originating from a Taoist hermit sage, he is known for his distinctively elongated forehead and long beard. In this painting, Fukurokuju is seen riding a turtle, which is also a symbol of longevity.
This painting has been recovered (cut) from an antique scroll, folding screen, fusuma door or album leaf and has been newly framed.
CONDITION: Good condition for age. Please note that antique and vintage artworks may have traces of time, stains and creases due to age, so please review all photos.
