"My Gypsy Friend"
This horse portrait of a Gypsy Vanner seeks to capture the calm gentle nature of these family friendly horses. The pattern of the black and white on this paint horse is complemented by the loose impressionistic background in varying greens and evokes the rich pasture lands he’s dreaming of.
Lorie Batson~ is a highly accomplished oil and pastel artist, celebrated for her ability to capture the spirit of the West. She is a member of the Plein Air Artists of New Mexico, a signature member of the Plein Air Artists of Colorado and a proud member of The Cowgirl Artists of America. Her work beautifully portrays outdoor scenes with rich authenticity and depth.
“My Gypsy Friend”
A striking Gypsy Vanner horse is mounted on live-edge reclaimed barn wood, finished in a rich purple walnut patina that draws out the deep black hues of the horse’s coat. Lorie’s painting is beautifully framed in a vintage leather Western bridle, adorned with silver studs, conchos, an original silver buckle, and keeper. Turquoise accents echo the soft blues of the backdrop, tying the piece together with a soft Western elegance.

I love working with Lorie Batson who is an amazing local artist of Westcliffe, Co. Together we create beautiful, art work and bring our creative visions together.
Being able to frame Lorie's artwork and add my own creative touch has been such an amazing experience. Together, we’re not just creating beautiful pieces—we’re blending our styles and the spirit of our Westcliffe community.
Flying Lead Designs~ in the workshop, I’ve been crafting unique, one-of-a-kind frames that elevate each piece of art. My passion for repurposing and sustainability leads me on adventures and hunting for vintage treasurers, gathering Western belts, belt buckles, conchos, cowhide and barn wood —all of which come together in distinctive, handcrafted frames. These designs merge Western charm, craftsmanship, and eco-conscious creativity.
