Each pedestal presents a striking architectural form crowned with a finely shaped white marble top, resting above an ebonized case richly ornamented with gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts. The front door of each cabinet features an exquisite polychrome hardstone inlay composition, depicting an elegant inverted arrangement of flowers, fruit, and foliage tied together with a marigold-colored ribbon. The composition is executed in finely cut semi-precious stones, demonstrating the remarkable craftsmanship associated with Napoleon III decorative arts.
The pedestals are framed with delicate gilt borders and embellished with sculptural ormolu mounts including classical masks and foliate ornamentation.
