Sometimes listed in French as “Ours Blanc” (White Bear), this classic Baccarat crystal polar bear is revered for its minimalist, smooth Art Deco-style form. Pompon was a long-time apprentice of Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, and the original "Ours Blanc" Pompon Polar Bear can be found alongside their masterpieces at the Musée d'Orsay.

Pompon renewed the art of animal sculpture in the early 20th century with his minimalist style. He simplified shapes and smoothed surfaces to remove all frills. “It is the movement that determines the form”.
