The Monk … Read more Antique Burmese 19th century hand carved polychrome sculpture of the Buddhist Monk Sariputta, from the Mandalay (Burma) region. The Monk figure is seated crossed legs lotus posture, slightly reclined posture with one hand raised palm down reflects a disciple receiving the Dharma or showing respect to the Buddha. Conventionally in Burma, Sariputta is depicted seated on the Buddha’s right. Sariputta was deemed second to Buddha in terms of wisdom and knowledge of the Dhamma. The polychrome (multi-colored) surface is weathering and worn, has joint cracking, base underside has extreme wear, with worm holes and wore rough texture. See less
