Europe. A sculptural ceramic wall plaque depicting the serene face of a cherub / child rendered in softly modeled bas-relief. The head emerges gently from the surface, the eyes closed. The composition shows a quiet, contemplative presence. The plaque is finished in a wonderful glaze combining tones of cream, cobalt blue, and green. Mounted with a metal hanging loop, the plaque was conceived as a decorative wall object. Pieces of this type formed part of the broader tradition of art nouveau / arts and crafts European decorative art pottery in the early twentieth century, where molded reliefs and expressive glazes were explored. Overall a very charming object with both a sculptural presence and a very good decorative charm. Comes in a good and untouched condition. See less
