A young, talented Lithuanian artist emigrated to Berlin. He died in 1926 at the age of 31. His work often depicts scenes from the "Stettl," the now-destroyed world of Jews in the East. Here is a work with a dedication to his landlord, "Art for Rent." Some of his works are in the collection of the Jewish Museum in Berlin.
Abraham Palukst (1895-1926), Jewish artist born in Ritova, Lithuania. Emigrated to Germany where he studied with Hermann Struck and was a friend of Jacob Steinhardt (his etched portrait, made by Steinhardt, is in the collection of the Israel Museum). Died in Berlin aged 31.
We are offering here a proof print, i.e., with a fresh plate before the work went to print, with a handwritten dedication by the artist himself. This piece has an attribution mark,
