The Adder’s Tongue. A curious woodland specimen, long admired by botanists and the quietly devoted collector.
Collected sometime between 1890 and 1915, when herbarium sheets were assembled with patience, ink pens, and an almost scholarly reverence for the natural world. Carefully pressed and preserved for more than a century, the specimen still holds the delicate form that first caught the collector’s eye.
Labeled in the classical manner: Erythronium americanum, Order Liliaceae. The language of old botany ~ precise, elegant, and enduring.
Mounted on gently tea-stained paper that carries the warmth and character of age. The sheet shows foxing and light staining, with natural oxidation and subtle edge toning. Uneven discoloration along the bottom edge reflects its century-long history, adding to the charm and authenticity of this vintage specimen.
Part of the Woodland Collection, a gathering of botanical specimens celebrating the quiet beauty of forest flora.
Unframed, as it has been kept ready for the setting it deserves.
A perfect addition to an established herbarium or an evocative beginning to a collection of vintage botanical art and timeless natural history.
