This very fine antique Russian icon is painted in the academic style rather than the more stylized Byzantine style. Painted with egg tempera on limewood, depicting two saints, each titled in cyrillic script. The border having raised gilded and polychrome geometric and floral decoration.
The quality of the painting and gilding is very fine, the icon having wooden staves or braces known in Russian as 'shponki', these are to prevent the wooden panel from warping.
The icon is in excellent antique condition, both the painted and gilded surfaces are in excellent state. This very attractive antique Russian icon is ready to hang on your wall. See less
