What is a Fashion Stat?

A "stat" (short for photostat) is a high-fidelity archival reproduction used by Parisian couture houses during the pre-digital era. These were not mass-market prints but professional design tools. Once a designer completed a master sketch, a very limited number of these high-quality stats were produced to be sent exclusively to elite international buyers, press offices, and high-end boutiques to showcase the new season's collection. Because they were intended for internal industry use and often discarded after the season, surviving stats are now highly collectible pieces of fashion ephemera.
