An Exceptional Quality And Relatively Large Mid 19th Century Victorian Period Brass Club Fender, Having Fabric Upholstered Bench Seat, Raised On Extremely Elegant Turned Supports, Of Full Height All The Way Around, Having Step Moulded Kerb To Base.
This club fender is really rather lovely indeed, with a few features which certainly raise it above the norm.
Firstly it is a bit earlier than 90% of those that you will see. It dates to around 1860, the mid victorian period and because it is that bit earlier in date the brass has accquired a lovely old lustre to it.
Another nice feature is the full height support bars. Although sometimes a drop centre can be attractive it is much rare to find these full height ones and we feel it creates more of a country house type feel. The bars themselves are very elegant as well, particularly with the moulded decoration halfway up them.
Finally it is a little larger than normal as well which gives it great presence, but it is not so large that it would be totally overpowering, in fact we think that balance of size is just about perfect.
The fabric covering has been in place quite some time and is in reasonable condition overall, with no obvious stains or marks. There is however one small burn hole which we have featured in a photograph, The seat could easily and inexpensively be recovered in a fabric, or leather, of the owners choice at any point in the future.
The fender has been inspected in our workshops by our restorers and received a good clean to the brass before being offered for sale.

Another feature worth noting is that the inner brass kerb/flange/border/plates are only screwed on with a few screws and can be easily removed without affecting the structure and integrity of the piece should that make a difference to the fender fitting around a specific hearth.
