An antique french blue and white faience table lamp by samson of paris, circa 1880–1910, featuring intricate hand-painted delft-style decoration and newly fitted pleated english heritage shade.
this antique blue and white ceramic table lamp is crafted from tin-glazed earthenware (faience) and hand-painted in the delft revival style by samson of paris, dating to circa 1880–1910. The baluster-form vase features a tall neck rising from a lobed, scalloped foot, creating a graceful vertical silhouette rooted in historic dutch ceramic tradition.
the decoration is executed in cobalt blue on a white ground, with finely detailed floral sprays, scrolling foliage, and a painted border band encircling the lower edge. The underside bears hand-painted blue marks including an “o over a” monogram with bar, a separate cross mark, and painter’s control marks, consistent with samson of paris delft-style production during the late 19th to early 20th century.
samson of paris became renowned for its highly skilled interpretations and revivals of historic european ceramic traditions, particularly delftware. This example reflects the firm’s precision in reproducing both form and surface vocabulary while maintaining the vitality of hand-painted decoration.
the vase has been professionally converted to a lamp and fitted with new wiring. It is paired with a newly made pleated shade in an english heritage block print fabric featuring a small blue floral motif framed by trellis patterning, inspired by a fragment of historic wallpaper discovered at 80 st john street, clerkenwell. The refined print complements the cobalt decoration while preserving the integrity of the original ceramic base.
finished with a new blue fabric-wrapped cord. The listed height includes the lampshade. Supplied with a u.s. Plug or customized at no additional charge for your country of use.
an elegant example of late 19th-century french delft revival faience, ideal for traditional, english country, grandmillennial, european classic, or collected interiors seeking historic character with functional refinement.
