Architectural DKB table lamp designed in 1999 by Danish studio Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and manufactured by Louis Poulsen.
The lamp was originally developed as a functional reading light for the study desks of the Royal Danish Library in Copenhagen. The design reflects the restrained minimalism typical of Danish architectural lighting, focusing on durability, clarity of form, and precise illumination for reading and desk work.
Constructed in brushed steel, the lamp features a geometric upright square stem and an adjustable head designed to provide flexible task lighting.
The mechanism allows the head to move laterally approximately 25 cm to the left and 25 cm to the right, enabling the light to be positioned exactly where needed across a desk surface. The light head can also rotate and twist, while the upright arm extends forward over paperwork or books, making it ideal for reading or detailed desk work.
Architect-designed lighting produced by Louis Poulsen for institutional settings rarely appears on the secondary market, making this an appealing piece for collectors of Danish architecture and Scandinavian design.
