This wonderful abstraction by Sandra Gierke is executed in oil on linen. A very active painting with a vivacous composition, staccato shapes and lines, and a fantacstic, heavily worked surface.
Gierke, a contemporary of Robert Natkin, exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago with other notewothy Chicago artists in 1959, 1960 and 1961. Gierke won the first place William and Bertha Clausmann prize In 1959.
