Beautiful large vintage seaside impressionist oil painting by artist Lydia Cooling, signed “L. Cooling” in the lower left corner just beneath the seagull perched on the rock. This expressive seascape composition features a cypress tree and a seagull among coastal rocks, with more seagulls and a sailboat across the water in the distance. Soft pastel skies and textured brushwork give the scene a dreamy, atmospheric quality, capturing the wonderful California shoreline.

Lydia Symington Cooling (1903-2000) was active in the local art scene in both Northern & Southern California, as she was a member of the La Jolla Art Association and the Santa Cruz Art League. She was a very accomplished listed artist and most of her works are in private collections or museums. Her works rarely come available.

The painting is presented in its original ornate carved wood frame, which complements the artwork perfectly and adds a classic gallery presence.
