A large, colorful and exotic vintage traditional Burmese/Thai lacquerware box.
The rhomboid-shaped box is crafted from lacquer resin over a wood core and meticulously hand-decorated with incised linework and storytelling scenes in cinnabar red and gold. The box has a design of Thai court life. There is an inner tray that is also painted with lacquer. The painting of the box is detailed, accurate, artistic and colorful.
MEASUREMENTS
10 5/8 in (27.0 cm) wide x 8 ¼ in (21.0 cm) deep x 8 ½ in (21.6 cm) tall. Weighs 3 lbs 8.9 oz.
CONDITION
There are no breaks, cracks, or repairs. There are small lacquer losses on lower corners of the lid, upper corners of the base, as well as on the inside edges of the mouth. There are some drips of lacquer on the edge of the inner tray. The black lacquer inside the box is a little bumpy, and some red has run into the black on the base.
