Capodimonte sculpture originated in 1743 in Naples, Italy, when King Charles VII of Bourbon and Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony established a royal factory to rival Meissen porcelain, creating unique, creamy soft-paste works often marked with a crowned "N", for Naples, as is this example. Famed for intricate detailing, vibrant colors, and realistic figures created by skilled artisans.

This impressive and intense work depicts Michelangelo creating his famous Renaissance marble sculpture of the biblical figure Moses with horns. Exuding fearsome power, Moses clutches the tablet of the Ten Commandments under his arm. Finished in 1515, since 1545 the original Moses has adorned the tomb of Pope Julius II in the quaint church of San Pietro in Vincoli, Rome Italy.
