Original mixed media abstract collage on paper by Mark Peterson, dated 1986. The composition features layered torn paper and painterly passages in saturated red and deep blue, arranged in a bold modernist format that highlights both color and texture.
The work combines collage and paint to create depth and movement, with irregular torn edges and visible layering that emphasize the handmade process. The restrained palette and graphic structure evoke the language of late 20th century abstract collage and modernist paper works.
A Phillips Gallery (Salt Lake City) label is present on the reverse identifying the work as “Paper Piece #6,” mixed media, 16 × 10, Mark Peterson. Phillips Gallery, founded in 1965, is one of the longest-running contemporary art galleries in the western United States.
The piece is presented in a minimalist metal gallery frame with white matting that highlights the bold color blocks and sculptural paper textures.
