This is a substantial and finely detailed "Animalier" bronze sculpture of an Arabian Mare, cast after the celebrated 19th-century French sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810–1879).
Distinguished by quality, this piece weighs nearly 9 lbs, indicating a superior high-gauge bronze casting. The sculpture captures the elegant, spirited movement characteristic of Mêne’s work, with exceptional chasing detail visible in the flowing mane, tail, and muscular definition.
The piece is finished in a rich, classic chocolate-brown patina and is signed "P.J. Mêne" on the naturalistic bronze plinth. It is mounted on its original beveled oval black marble base, making it a sophisticated addition to a library mantle, executive desk, or equestrian-themed gallery.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The patina is well-preserved with no significant wear or pitting. The marble base is sturdy and free of major chips.
