A visually striking and exceptionally rare work of art, this imposing solid bronze sculpture was created and signed in 1979 by renowned italian master sculptor mario apuzzo. A piece of exquisite design, enhanced by its interactive nature: the work can be dismantled into three distinct elements.
note on the author: mario apuzzo is a renowned italian sculptor whose artistic research focuses on bronze casting, exploring the boundary between classical figuration and informal abstraction. His signature style is unmistakable and is based on the contrast between "finished and unfinished": the use of rough, corroded patinas (simulating rock or archaeological finds) juxtaposed with polished, polished gilded bronze surfaces. His works, often dreamlike or surreal, represent humanity and thought laboriously emerging from raw material.
subject and style: the work features a composition with a surrealist flavor. From the rough material, treated with a dense texture and a magnificent verdigris patina (rock/oxidation effect), geometric and figurative elements emerge in highly polished gilded bronze. Highlights include a perfect sphere, a vortex or stylized eye, and, above all, a human face with a dramatic and evocative expression, sculpted with classical mastery. The sculpture is designed to be experienced: the three bronze blocks that compose it can be interlocked or moved, allowing for a direct interaction with the work.
material and finish: the sculpture is cast in heavy solid bronze, with a refined two-tone patina (antique green and polished gold). It rests on a solid rectangular base of fine white veined marble. The work is hand-engraved directly into the bronze with the signature and year of production: "m. Apuzzo 79".
