The lamp is composed … Read more A mid-century danish stoneware table lamp characterised by its sculptural form and richly textured brown glaze. The lamp is composed with a wide circular base, an elongated cylindrical stem, and a restrained ring handle detail, recalling the proportions of a traditional chamberstick while reinterpreted through a modernist lens. Handcrafted in glazed ceramic, the surface displays a deliberately tactile, almost brutalist quality, with subtle variations in tone and texture that emphasise the material integrity of the stoneware. The earthy brown glaze enhances the lamp’s organic presence and reflects the experimental ceramic approaches seen in scandinavian studio production during the 1970s. The lamp was designed by jette hellerøe and produced by axella in denmark. The underside bears the axella denmark stamp, confirming origin and authenticity. The lamp retains its original adjustable-height lampshade carrier, lamp holder, and wiring, all currently in good working order, although not pat tested. Dimensions: diameter: 18 cm height to lamp holder: 29 cm height to highest lampshade carrier: 45 cm height to lowest lampshade carrier: 39 cm a strong example of danish studio-influenced ceramic lighting from the late mid-century period, suitable for interiors that favour sculptural form, material honesty, and restrained modernism.
